Writing for connection and care

  • St. Ignatius High School Gibson Street Thunder Bay, ON, P7A Canada (map)

As a therapeutic and expressive writing facilitator, I draw on trauma-informed narrative and response-based practices to help others use writing to develop coping skills, imagine and play, feel anchored in an uncertain world, and express themselves in their own words on their own terms. Writing can serve as both a practical tool and an emotional anchor, especially for those of us who are shy, introverted, or already writers. In this session, we’ll write to connect with ourselves and each other in a relaxed atmosphere. We’ll learn about the benefits of creating our own writing practice, as well as how we can care for ourselves while writing. There will be opportunities for sharing and reflection, however, no one is obligated to share what they write. No writing experience is necessary.

Note: This is a private session for TBCDSB secondary teachers Professional Development day.
