What do I bring to a session?
While you don’t need to bring anything, you may want to have a personal item (small object, shawl, slippers, etc.) that helps you feel more comfortable in a therapeutic space.
What if I’m running late or I need to cancel?
Please do so at least 24 hours in advance, so that I can plan to use your reserved time in another way. If you miss your session, or you cancel less than 24 hours before your appointment time, you will need to pay the full session fee (unless it’s an emergency). If you are running a few minutes late, please just let me know and if I can accommodate, I will.
What about confidentiality?
Our sessions are always confidential, however, there are some limits. I am required to break confidentiality under these conditions: a child is at risk of harm, you plan to harm yourself, you plan to harm someone else, or I am court ordered to release your records.
What are your fees?
My fees fall within the standard range recommended by the OASW and what is typical in Thunder Bay. Individual therapy sessions are $150/hr. Rates for groups vary depending on the duration, location, number of participants, and materials needed.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cash, e-transfer and major credit cards. Fees are due at the end of a session regardless of the form of payment.
Will my health benefits cover these sessions?
Many extended health benefits plans provide some coverage for counselling. I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). If you have benefits, be sure to check with your provider about your counselling coverage prior to booking a session. When you pay for your session, I’ll issue a receipt with my registration number that you can submit to your insurance provider. I cannot bill them directly.
Do you offer marriage or family counselling?
No, I do not.
Do you work with kids?
Only if they are 16+ and they’re open to the kind of support I provide.
Where is your office located and is the building accessible?
The office is in the north core and, unfortunately, is not accessible due to the staircase. If you are keen to work with me and the location is a barrier, please reach out to see if we can come up with an alternative that works for both of us.
